Bryant tops Vermont, 87-64

Sunday, November 17, 2013

Dyami Starks is on a roll.

A big roll.  Starks scored 30 points Saturday night in an 87-64 win for Bryant over Vermont in Smithfield, RI...after scoring 35 points in an opening loss at 15th ranked Gonzaga, and another 35 in a victory over Dartmouth

100 points in three games?  That's some start to a season.

The Bulldogs (2-1) were up 37-32 at halftime. The Catamounts (1-2) got as close as four early in the second half and were down 52-47 with 14:15 remaining when Bryant went on a 16-1 run.

That left the Bulldogs in a 68-48 lead with 9:03 left, and the Catamounts couldn't get closer than 17 after that.

Alex Francis had six points and Starks five points during the decisive run.  Francis finished with 22 points, Joe O'Shea had 15 and Curtis Oakley 10 for Bryant, which shot 56 percent from the floor overall. Senior Corey Maynard had a career-high 10 assists.

Clancy Rugg scored 13 points, Luke Apfeld and Sandro Carissimo scored 12 each and Naasir Williams had 10 for the Catamounts.  Brian Voelkel grabbed 10 rebounds.

Vermont will play Monday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center against Providence, while Bryant will next play at Harvard Wednesday night, November 20th.
